It looks like there are two hybrid saws at that price point.

I haven’t used either saw, but I have fun tool hunting, so I figured I’d join the search with you. I’d research both saws, compare the below broad categories, and optimize for my needs and wants vs. where I’m willing to sacrifice. I hope this is helpful.

    • Motor size and direct drive or belt drive
    • Power optionality (110/220)
    • Cast iron table
    • Fence material – rigid and sturdy
    • Rip and outfeed capacity
    • Accepts dado stack
    • Dust collection efficiency
    • Safety features
    • Easy of setup
    • Easy of adjustment to square
    • Does the saw stay square

I used to run two-stage but felt I lost suction power. It was running into a 31-gallon galvanized trash can and then split out to my DC, so it was a makeshift setup. Once I went to a single stage, it was much better. I’m sure with a more powerful DC, a two-stage would be great. But if that’s not what you’re running, a single stage works fine.

I have the Jet JPJ12, and I’m a fan. For my garage shop, there isn’t enough room for two big machines since I also have a CNC that has a larger footprint. On my combo machine, I can get flat and square; if two dedicated machines can get more flat and square, I wouldn’t be able to tell. That consideration, plus budget and space, has me pretty happy with my decision to go with a combo machine.

It looks like they turned out great. I need to build a full miter station with cabinet bases. I watched a woodwhisper guild video on his miter station but was thinking of designing my own. The FTBT plans look pretty simple with the pocket screws, so maybe I’ll do a custom woodwhisper FTBT mashup to get mine done.

Would you recommend the Kreg jigs for hinges?

Those are really cool! Question. How do you get the colors of the flag to be so vibrant?

Thanks for jumping into this forum. I suppose my first question is how to remove any rust and begin to flatten the sole? Thanks!

For me the toughest part is storage. We have household storage, and then all my shop storage needs. They are always competing with each other. I think I have a plan to build out a bunch of shelves that should be a big help. Don’t even get me started on kids bikes!

Mobile bases are key, and I’ve also found flip top carts to be super efficient.

I’ll have to check out the Rockler Dust Rite.
