Here’s What Happens When a Carpenter does Electronics

The outside of the case is made from solid maple and the top panel is 1/8" thick aluminum painted black. I finished the wood with three coats of waterbased polyurethane. I love the simple, clean lines and the stark contrast between the painted black parts and the warm natural wood and amber glow from the meters. The project uses an LM4780 dual channel chip amp that can put out around 50 watts rms into 8 ohm speakers. Not super powerful, but the speakers I built this for don't need a lot of power. I designed and made the PCB for the chip amp, but wound up redoing the design and making a new circuit board when I made too many mistakes on the first one. All part of the fun! Also inside the amp case is another circuit board that has an active filter that cuts out the bass. The amp is more than capable of full range output, but I don't want any low frequencies going to the small speakers and the active filter does that.
